Following this procedure will be possible to update the VS. iphone 3g from a firmware 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 to version 4.0.2 with jailbreak maintaining contacts, photos and anything else you want. WARNING THIS WAY 'only been tested on iPhone 3G 3.1.3 WITH OLD iBoot: 359.3.
REQUIREMENTS TO UPGRADE:
1) Iphone 3g 3.1.2 3.1.2 (Old iBoot)
2) Macintosh OSX
3) Windows XP or Vista or 7
4) PwnageTool (link download below)
5) Original Firmware 4.0.2 (download link below)
To check your version, follow this iBoot procedure (Council Procedure on mac):
Put iphone in DFU mode (click to see the procedure for entering in DFU mode).
Computer Windows:
1) Connect the iPhone to pc
2) Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System-> Hardware -> Device Manager
Search 'Controller USB (Universal Serial Bus)
3) Open 'tree by clicking the + and look under' Apple Mobile Device USB Driver '
4) Right click on' Properties', choose details tab "Device Instance Id" from the end of the string you should see the version number of bootrom, eg [iBoot-359.x].
Mac Computers:
1) Connect l'iphone al Mac
2) Aprire System Profiler e navigare su Hardware -> individuare la voce USB nel menu di sinistra
3) A destra individuare la voce periferiche usb, click su 'Apple Mobile Device (DFU Mode).'
Nel pannello di info in basso a destra, individuare la stringa del 'Serial Number'. alla fine di questa strionga troverai la bootrom version, e.g. [iBoot-359.x].
Le vecchie bootrom sono fino alla 359.3
Le nuove bootrom vanno dalla 359.3.1 in poi (359.3.x)

1) Effettuare backup con itunes o sincrinizzare iphone sempre con itunes

E' possibile eseguire sempre backup con itunes o sincronizzazione oppure (consigliato) usare ssh.
1) Se avete iphone jailbrekkato andate su cydia e cercate il pacchetto OpenSSH
2) Scaricate e installate il pacchetto (avviene in automatico)
3) Andare su impostazioni/generali/blocco automatico e impostarlo su mai
4) Collegatevi in wireless alla vs rete con iphone
5) individuare l'indirizzo ip del vs. iphone (andare su impostazioni/wi-fi cliccare sulla freccetta accanto alla vs wireless e prendere nota del vs. indirizzo ip es: 192.168.0.2)
6) Scaricate WinSCP da qui
7) Aprire WinSCP e cliccare su nuovo
8) inserite l'indirizzo ip noted before 9) enter "root" as username and "alpine" as password
10) wait for the connection and opens a Windows Explorer window is divided in two, right and left of the contents of the iPhone vs the content of the PC .

MAKE THE FIRMWARE UUPGRADE1. Download the 4.0.2 firmware from this link ;
2. PwnageTool download the file that will be useful later ( link)
3. Now create the custom firmware 4.0.2 follow this guide ;
4. Once you create the custom firmware ipsw open the file with winrar (no extract) and overwrite the file that you downloaded with kernelcache.release.n88 (step 2).
5. Wait for the update winrar archive and close the file.
6. Open iTunes and click restore while holding down the shift key (Windows) or Option (Mac), will open a dialog box to select the firmware to load and choose the custom firmware created by PwnageTool first
7. Wait for the work of itunes.
8. After about 10-15 minutes you'll be a virgin iphone 3g with firmware 4.0.2 and jailbrekkato
If you have an iPhone probably will not have any foreign telephone signal and then proceed as follows:
1) Open Cydia
2) Go to Manage

3) Now close and reopen the section of the iPhone WinSCP and find your contacts
